The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center at Cape Disappointment

The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, overlooking the confluence of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean, has been recently renovated in light of the Bicentennial commemoration of the Corps of Discovery’s 1804-06 overland expedition. New additions to the center include: an enlarged theater featuring a new movie titled “Of Dreams and Discovery,” a meeting room which also displays temporary or traveling exhibits, and many brand new exhibits that focus on:

Thomas Jefferson’s influence on the organization and direction of the Expedition’s observations and activities
A summary of the Expedition’s experience on the Missouri River and Rocky Mountain portions of their voyage
A focused interpretation of the Expedition’s discoveries and experiences along the Columbia River with special attention given to the Corp’s arrival at the mouth of the Columbia River and their overland journey to the shores of the Pacific Ocean

Interpretive Program

The second floor of the Interpretive Center is devoted to giving visitors an overview of the varied history at Cape Disappointment after Lewis and Clark including exhibits on the two lighthouses found within the park, the military’s presence including the Coast Guard, and changes to the natural environment.

Open daily, year around from 10 AM to 5 PM.

FEES:
Adults & Seniors: $5.00
Children 7-17: $2.50
Children 6 and under: FREE

Tours, programs, and guided hikes are available with an appointment made in advance. To make a group reservation or for more information call (360) 642-3029. A bookstore, operated by the Friend of the Columbia River Gateway, is located in the center offering Lewis and Clark, lighthouse, and environmentally themed books, maps, and other merchandise.
